The Butterfly House boasts the first modern shipping container addition in Palm Springs. The addition serves as a cabana in the backyard, and includes a bed, full bath with a soaking tub, and an outdoor shower. The container was made in L.A., trucked in, then craned over the house and into the backyard. Part of the finishing was done in Los Angeles, and part in Palm Springs on location.
Features in the main home are characteristic of the classic Palmer + Krisel design which includes clerestory windows, tongue-and-groove ceilings, original fireplace, and a vaulted roof line.
The shipping container is an interesting juxtaposition stylistically, yet it embraces and expands upon the idea of utilizing simple, affordable materials, details and design characteristic of the main house.

The newly redone front and backyard take full advantage of the corner lot with expansive views and landscaping that includes a bocce ball court, new pool, jacuzzi, and new fire-table with seating.

The homeowners meticulously oversaw all of the new front and backyard landscaping. The goal was to have a feeling and look of “controlled desert wild”, but to be sure it was all drought friendly desert plants, flowers, and trees.
